Shane fell to his death from an eighth-floor balcony during spring break in Miami Beach, Fla.
"Police investigators said Collins had been drinking from about 11 a.m. March 12 until he passed out at the bar about 4 a.m. March 13."
After Shane and a friend returned to the Holiday Inn where they had been staying, Shane wandered over to a balcony and fell to the ground.
But Nicholas Weaver, also an MSU sophomore, said Collins knew how to separate fun from work.
"He knew how to party and have a good time," Weaver said, "but if he had an exam, he wouldn't drink or do anything stupid the night before."
