Duquesne stunned by death of co-ed at off-campus party

Tuesday, March 15, 2005                            Article

By Bill Schackner and Michael A. Fuoco, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Reported that Meredith Kenneff, 20, apparently was drinking for much of the day.   Meredith collapsed at an off-campus party on a Saturday night.  Paramedics were called about 8:30 p.m. Saturday to a residence in Mount Washington where, authorities say, some Duquesne students were apparently in attendance.

The report relayed how detectives were told that Meredith had been drinking beer throughout the day. She attended the St. Patrick's Day parade and then went to a club Downtown, where she drank more.  After returning to campus, where she ate, slept for a time and then went out to at least three other clubs, again drinking beer. She had a few drinks at each stop, Bryant said. At a party, Meredith drank vodka and Red Bull, a nonalcoholic energy drink.  According to a witness, Meredith "was dancing and the next thing [other partygoers] knew, she collapsed onto the floor."   To others at the party, Meredith appeared intoxicated but not so much that she needed help walking or was falling down.
