Newport University when a 2006 Acura slammed into the back of his car, causing
it in turn to crash into the Ford Mustang directly ahead. All three drivers
involved in the crash were CNU students: William , 22; Eric Fowler, 20; and an

NEWPORT NEWS
Reported that an involuntary manslaughter charge will proceed against
Eric Fowler who crashed into cars stopped at a red light fatally injuring
William Schlifke. Fowler was initially charged with DUI on the basis of
Bonacci's statement that Fowler smelled of alcohol, was unsteady on his
feet, had bloodshot and watery eyes and slurred his words.
DUI charges were dropped at the hearing since Fowler refused to submit to
either a field sobriety test or a breath test and no evidence other than the
Officer's description exists.
