Drinking without thinkingBinge drinking remains issue on campusBy: Ryan Sullivan Top of page ArticlePosted: 9/15/08At the one year anniversary of Jordan Shirey 's death from alcohol poisoning, the article noted that the tragedy did not result in any change to University policy., However, binge drinking still remains a hot button issue within the University community. In statements, University officials said that they basically do what they can enforcing the University's policies. The article contained the following useful information for students: "Symptoms of alcohol poisoning: -Person is unconscious or semi-conscious and cannot be awakened. -Cold, clammy, pale or bluish skin. -Slow breathing (less than eight times per minute) or irregular breathing (ten seconds or more between breaths). -Vomiting while "sleeping" or passed out, and not waking up after vomiting. -If a person has any of these symptoms, they may be suffering from acute alcohol intoxication: -Get help! Call someone, a staff member, an ambulance, public safety, someone who can help. -Do not leave the person alone. Turn them on their side to prevent choking in case of vomiting. -Remember, "better safe than sorry," get them help! How can your friend be angry about you caring for them?
